As an experienced lawyer, Jonathan is highly qualified for mediation in a wide range of disputes in high-tech market sectors including in the following areas:
Intellectual Property (including patent licensing, Trademark and copyright issues). Jonathan had ring-side seats in the Cellular Patent Wars of 2005-2010 and advised on a number of bet-the-company patent law-suits and licensing battles with household-name companies, and numerous patent-trolls.
Workplace and Employment (including collective bargaining and senior management exits). Jonathan has advised on disputes with trade unions in UK / Sweden / Holland / PRC, and numerous senior manager exits in UK, Europe, PRC, and the U.S.A. Jonathan has also been a party to numerous successful workplacemeditations.
Commercial transactions (especially cross-border). Jonathan has advised on a myriad of complex commercial transactions and projects, and around 30+ international M&A transactions in the High-Tech product space.
Sales and Marketing. Jonathan has advised on the establishment of multi-layered distribution systems in Europe and the U.S.A. He has advised on product advertising, product recalls, and product liability issues generally.
Anti-trust (including private / civil actions). Whilst based in the U.S.A. Jonathan settled 2 suites of multi-party Anti-trust class actions valued at over $1 Billion. These lawsuits were also multi-jurisdictional (including U.S.A., UK, Brazil, Taiwan, and Israel).
Information Technology (including Information Security and Personal Data & Privacy issues). Whilst based in the U.S.A. Jonathan had the Information Security function reporting to him and had to deal with the fall-out from the Sony Pictures hack of 2014.
Manufacturing and Engineering issues. Jonathan has been involved at every stage of hardware and software product development including:dealing with R&D, patent-strategy, Open Source development, regulatory issues, andfrom a supplier contract perspective.
Complex Negotiation. In-depth understanding of doing business in Asia (especially Japan and China), the E.U., U.S.A. and elsewhere.
Complex multi-party litigation/arbitrations. Managing and resolving large scale, multi-party commercial disputes and regulatory issues. Extensive exposure to big-ticket, patent, anti-trust, commercial and class-action litigation in most E.U. countries, U.S.A., Japan, Israel and the Middle East.
Jonathan is as comfortable resolving disputes in the Middle East, as he is in Japan, China, U.S.A.or India. Disputes covered vary from Product Liability, to commercial disputes of every variety.
He successfully negotiated an amicable settlement between a major household brand and a major sports event organisation relating to a long-term multi-million-dollar sponsorship agreement.
Jonathan is the Chairman of the Advisory Board of Immersionn Limited - the world’s first Virtual Reality discovery portal.
Jonathan is a non-executive Director, and Audit-Committee member of Founders4Schools, an education-tech charity that aims to improve the life chances of children by connecting them to business leaders. He was a long-term trustee of LawWorks, a UK charity providing pro-bono legal work for the voluntary sector. He has also been a school Governor.
He is a husband, a father of 3 great kids, and has a pet terrier called ‘Mike’. At the weekends (when not playing the piano) he loves to cook, eat, and socialise.
