Dr Robert Walters is an International Arbitrator, Solicitor, Associate Professor Law. Dr Walters has more than a decade experience providing advice and representation in domestic and international commercial disputes, and government inquiries across a wide variety of industry sectors. Robert holds an LLB, MPPM, PhD Law.
Robert is an expert in cross border international law pertaining to the digital and traditional economies. Robert has his own legal practice and is an Associate Professor Law.
Dr Walters has been engaged by national governments and corporate entities to resolve transnational trade and investment, market access, security, AML, consumer protection, amongst many others across technology (smart contracts, data flows, cyber security, artificial intelligence, quantum, blockchain, algorithms) energy, resources, and Fintech-Digital Finance sectors.
He has extensive experience in the Digital Economy, Cross-Border Payments, Digital Finance, Energy, FinTech, Health, Primary Industries, Renewable Energy and Resources sectors, establishing domestic and international markets, contracts [negotiating out], agreements, intellectual property, mergers-acquisitions, takeovers, and resolving complex international disputes and domestic civil litigation. Apart from the above, Dr Walters is an expert in Trade and Investment Agreements, and the newly established Digital Economy Agreements. With more than a decade experience as a Regulator, Robert assists clients to meet their licensing and regulatory obligations. He also assists clients to respond to Regulator demands and navigate complex legal frameworks, negotiating pathways to ensure markets are retained.
Dr Walters is a Fellow of the Charter Institute of Arbitrators London, and has exceptional ability, both as a technical lawyer, strategic commercial thinker and legal scholar who is a highly effective negotiator. He has been appointed to high profile arbitration panels in United Kingdom, Europe, India, Singapore, amongst others and is a member of Silicon Valley Arbitration Centre United States, ASEAN Law Association.
Robert has been highly successful in negotiating blackmail-extortion cases on behalf of companies both domestically and international, and has been called upon as an AML expert. Robert draws on his extensive expertise to resolve clients commercial and personal objectives. He also has a engineering background which enables him to understand and resolve complex technical issues related to consumer products and technology.
Robert is a governance expert across developed and emerging technology such as blockchain, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, quantum and post quantum technology. He works with technology entities and manufacturers of various goods to commercialise their products.
Author of more than 8 books, 40 journals articles and 10 book chapters addressing commercial and private law along with dispute resolution across multiple countries. Robert has been cited by the World Intellectual Property Organisation and Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
