Mr Shaun Leong is Counsel of the International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution team with Eversheds Sutherland Harry Elias. Eversheds has 66 offices worldwide, and is ranked the number 2 law firm globally by Acritas’ UK Law Firm Brand Index 2018, as decided by more than 500 in house legal counsel around the world.
After graduating with First Class Honours, Mr Shaun Leong was sworn into a judicial role as a Magistrate and Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court. For 5 years in the Supreme Court, Mr Shaun Leong heard and decided many matters in a wide range of complex commercial disputes. Mr Shaun Leong’s written decisions have been widely cited and endorsed.
In his judicial role, Mr Shaun Leong published several notable written judgments on international arbitration law. The decisions include Firstlink Investments v GT Payment on the applicable law governing an arbitration agreement, and Titan Unity, endorsed by the Singapore Court of Appeal, on the threshold to determine the existence of a valid arbitration agreement. The “Titan Unity” has been referred to in leading texts such as David Joseph QC and David Foxton QC, Singapore International Arbitration: Law & Practice (LexisNexis 2014). His decision in FirstLink Investments (which held that the law governing an arbitration agreement should ordinarily be the law of the seat where parties fail to expressly set out the law of the agreement) is referred to in Arbitration in Singapore: A Practical Guide (Editor in Chief: The Honourable the Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon).
Mr Shaun Leong was the Head of the Court of Appeal Section in the Supreme Court Registry, and was involved in the management of many complex commercial appeals, such as the arbitral dispute in PT First Media TBK v Astro Nusantara International BV. He was integrally involved in the establishment of the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) as Secretariat of the SICC Committee. His experience includes a placement with the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

He focuses on cross-border complex commercial disputes seated across both common and civil law jurisdictions, and provides representation and strategic advice for clients engaged in international commercial arbitration and dispute resolution at international commercial courts.
Mr Shaun Leong is a contributing author to the leading arbitral text, Singapore International Arbitration Law and Practice (2nd Ed), and the Singapore Civil Procedure (\"The White Book”), in charge of the chapters relating to international arbitration and the SICC.
